One of the most well known Greek myths was the story between Pluto (or in Greek, Hades) and Persephone (or in Roman mythology, Cora). Their romance started in an atypical way, when Hades/Pluto, the king of the underworld, on one rare occasion decided to go for a walk in the upper world, saw Persephone/Cora (the daughter of the goddess Demetra) and instantly fell in love. With the help of his brother Zeus, he made a plan and split the ground beneath Persephone’s foot while she was playing with her friends, kidnapped her and took her to the underworld! While Persephone felt unhappy and homesick at first, she progressively started to love the mysterious Pluto. Her feelings grew even more when Pluto, realizing how much she was missing her family, allowed her to split her time between both worlds. Before making this decision, Pluto fed Persephone pomegranates, a fruit which ‘tied’ her to him indefinitely - love passes through the stomach after all! If Pluto & Persephone lived in modern times, we could easily hear Pluto say: ”Persephone pick up the phone to hear your voice the echo of my rejoice”.
